I'll tell you why he's coming back at 38: he realizes that by passing on the "carousing," he missed the best part of being a degenerate professional athlete. Drinking 12 beers at the hotel bar? He's got his whole life to do that.

1) Exactly what he claims: a guy who made a mistake (or two), just wanted to get back sooner, contrite, flawed but--belatedly, and for the most part--honest.
2) A liar like so many others on this subject, and just smarter and more media savvy than Rogers Clemens, who stubbornly insists on denying everything instead of triangulating to a lesser-but-believable sin to cop to.
