I'm relatively optimistic- he's been a starter before, I think he's older and wiser and ready to be a fair #3.

I don't know where Rogers Reilly is buying his morning coffee from, but there's no way Rick Ankiel keeps it up.  (He's already down to .283)  You cannot strikeout as much as he does and be a near-.300 hitter in the majors.  Can't do it.

Stay away.

Last time I checked in on this guy (admittedly a couple years ago), he was buried at Petco.  Now that he's in Pittsburg and hitting 5th, he's a legit fantasy commodity.  Always was supposedly a big-time bat.  Lump him into your Jermaine Dye, Jeff Francoeur, Brad Hawpe tier.

Rick Ankiel: Streaky, but MLB Average OF w/Upside Potential

with 140ish Ks, and figuring he misses 3-4 weeks with some random (HGH-related or otherwise) muscle pull.  I think high-side, he could stay healthy and jack 40 bombs.  low-side, he could be more Russell Branyon-esque, .240 with 170 Ks.

I'm chopping a few ABs off his projections for injury, but still ... when you add up the gaping teammates' accounts of his BP, and his spring stats, and all you've heard about the tools ... boo-ya.

Stays healthy (don't worry about this back deal), wins his first Cy this year.

Word is he's throwing 98 in Spring Training.  I actually suspect Marmol will close, but I can't help rooting for K-Wood.
